Mid-Europe Early Music Festival 2022 Kielce:
Creations
.
The Third Edition of the Mid-European Early Music Festival was a space of inspiring MEETINGS between cultures and styles. We hosted performers from six countries and had the opportunity to host students from all over Europe as part of the Kielcensis Academy. The tradition of French Baroque performance was represented by the outstanding harpsichordist Aline Zylberajch and the conductor and chamber musician Martin Gester.
Their artistic experience was met by the vocal group A Capella Leopolis from Lviv, which specialises in Baroque singing of the Greek-Catholic tradition. Their joint performance of Marc-Antoine Charpentier's oratorio works under the direction of Martin Gester was, we hoped, an extremely creative artistic challenge.
The ensemble from Lviv also presented, under the direction of Ludmila Kapustina, their own a capella repertoire perfectly fitting into the architecture of the Romanesque church in Szydłów covered with frescoes from the 14th century - a pearl of monuments of the Świętokrzyskie region.
Alongside A Capella Leopolis, we were able to host the outstanding vocal group Vox Clamantis from Tallinn, which, under the direction of Jaan-Eik Tulve, performs masterfully Gregorian chant, medieval polyphony and contemporary music, including compositions by Arvo Part.
As part of the Kielcensis Academy, we invited the choirs of our region, together with their conductors, to a workshop led by both Estonian and Ukrainian ensembles. We proposed the development of several pieces, which the choirs will perform at a joint concert.
Excellent Polish chamber soloists carried out a musical and choreographic project playing François Couperin's Royal Concertos accompanied by Czech dancers from Prague - Helena Kazarova's The Hartig Ensemble.
Also French music was the core of the programme of concerts by Capella Cracoviensis with soloist Magdalena Karolak - oboe and Bolette Roed (Denmark) - flute, as well as a 'violinist's tournament' performed by Robert Bachary, Grzegorz Lalka and Aline Zylberajch.
Under the baton of Marek Toporowski, Capella Cracoviensis played baroque music of the Lvov tradition accompanied by A Capella Leopolis.
And finally, there were some extraordinary encounters...
.Kannel and Anna-Liisa Eller (Estonia). An unusual instrument, an unusual artist playing a peculiarly constructed type of zither like a harpsichord.... without keys. A superb performer of early music, contemporary music, as well as her own compositions.
Bastard ensemble. An unusual marriage of early music and jazz, improvisation and closed form, creations that break the stereotypes of classical music style and aesthetics.
Piotr Domagała and Marek Toporowski. Challenge. Baroque and harpsichord. Electric guitar and jazz. A meeting of two great masters of both form and improvisation.
Academia Kielcensis has invited students playing harpsichord, organ, violin, viola da gamba, recorders, oboe in addition to choral classes.
